Birthday Celebration

Posted on November 8, 2003 by under Life.

I thought I’d share some pictures of how Brian and I celebrated my birthday last Saturday. As you know, we are down-to-earth kind of people so we just had a quiet dinner at Red Rock (I love that place!) and then we went to Hollywood Videos where we splurged on their 2 for $20 movies (we got six more to add to our collection) and we rented Down With Love, 28 Days Later, The Sleeping Dictionary and Hollywood Homicide.

We got home, moved the featherbed to the family room and watched a couple of movies. It was a request that I had made because we hadn’t done it in so long. We used to do it a lot when we lived at the townhouse. But now that we have a DVD player in the bedroom and we’ve moved the digital cable to the bedroom, we hardly ever spend time in the BAT (big-ass-tv) room anymore.

Here But Not Here

Training class again. Telephone training still blows. Especially when your wife has one of her obsessive compulsive moments and decides to spend all night searching the internet to find out what species of gliders we have. This endeavor started at about 9:30. At midnight I had to intervene and go to the office to retrieve her. She got kinda mad at me but if I didn’t stop her she would still be their in front of MY computer. She frustrates me when she does this shit, she will get so wrapped up in something that is not important and then the next day complains about how tired she is. I went into the office and told her it was time for bed, she kept saying one second, then 20 min would pass. Finally I got mad and went in their and was like “What are you doing anyway?” She told me that she was trying to see what kind of Glider we had. I told her that this was not important and we did not need to know this at this very second. I went on to tell her that we both had to get up early and go to work, but unlike her I have to sit in a boring ass class and listen to an instructor talk about something that has no interest to me (can we say sleepy time!). I decided to take the last 2 hours of work off tomorrow so that I can go play poker. I need a release from this environment. I received a phone call from the new 411 call center in this city for a supervisor position. I am hoping that they are going to call me back. They wanted me to come in at 9:30 the following day, I had to tell them that I couldn’t because I was at work and did not leave till seven. He said that he would call me back and tell me where they would be on Monday the day I told him I had off), but I’m not holding my breath. I remember when I was in that position, if someone didn’t come when I wanted them to I pushed them to the bottom of the pile. I told them some bullshit thing about working with them and then would never go back unless I was desperate or ran out of people to interview (which was usually beyond the time frame I initially established). So, with this kind of past in my mind. I’m not holding my breath for a repeat call, which means the search for a meaningful job is still on. Well, I think that’s all I can say at this moment so I will chat later.

Birthday

Posted on November 2, 2003 by under Life.

As you know my birthday was on Thursday but I had to go to school and I had to work. I wasn’t really expecting much of anything. Well, I expected cake because we have this birthday thing where the last person to have a birthday brings cake for the next person and so on. So I knew there would be cake. I didn’t expect my cube to be decorated, though, and I certainly didn’t expect a gift. Everyone has been acting really sketchy and distant lately. To top it off I’ve been really crabby and disgruntled so I really didn’t think I deserved anything.

I normally bring my trusty G3 for special occasions but I didn’t bring it on my birthday because I really didn’t think much of anything would happen. It was just like any other day.

Except when I came to work, my cube had been decorated with balloons and streamers. Misty did an awesome of job of decorating. This is a picture that she took with her camera phone. Thank god for camera phones or I wouldn’t even have this picture at all to share with you.

When it was slow enough, we had cake in the breakroom and they gave me a card and group gift: a $70 giftcard to Abercrombie. I think I mentioned that in passing on my last posting. I’ve even used it already. I’m such a shop-a-holic! It’s so sad.

Brian wasn’t sure if my coworkers were doing anything for my birthday because I haven’t really associated with them of late. Brian, the wonderful husband that he is, decided to surprise me by bringing me a birthday cookie when he picked me up from work on Thursday night. Here are pictures of us in the garage.

Isn’t he just the sweetest?
