Holiday Pop-Ups Recap

Posted on January 4, 2024 by under Things to Do.

I missed Sparky’s again this year but I’m pretty sure I set a new record for hitting holiday pop-up bars this holiday season.

The other night we went to Holiday Hideaway at Chicken N Pickle to celebrate Jenny Cole and Bobby Weisbrodt’s birthdays. Bobby’s was on December 30 and Jenny’s was on January 3 so the two of them decided to celebrate together on Tuesday, January 2. It worked out great because I was actually free that day.

It was a lot of fun and the festive drinks were yummy but there are so many holiday pop-up bar options these days. It seems like all the restaurants are trying to out-do each other. I think my favorite thing at Holiday Hideaway is the martini flight that’s served in bear glasses on a Chicken N Pickle snowboard. So cute and, for $20, not a bad deal at all.

The other pop-up I got to check out this year were:

Here’s a video highlight from my second visit to Jingle:

That night was quite wild. I hadn’t been out that late in a really long time. We shut down the restaurant and, by the time we left, the Old Town road barricades were down. I’m not usually out that late so I didn’t even know that was thing.

Having visited all these pop-ups, I must say that Jingle is my favorite because they have a DJ on Friday nights which makes the atmosphere extra fun and festive. And, out of all the holiday drinks I’ve drank, the Papa Noel is my fave.

Anyway, now that it’s January most of the holiday pop-ups have wrapped up for the season. Looking forward to hitting all these places (and then some) again next year. Until then, happy New Year to all!

Jingle with the Belles

Posted on December 21, 2023 by under Food and Drink, Things to Do.

We had so much fun at Snow Globe at River City Brewery a couple of weeks ago that I’ve decided to make it my mission to check out as many holiday pop-ups as I can. This week I hit Jingle (Public at the Brickyard’s holiday pop-up) with my some of my favorite pickleball ladies.

We had a lovely time enjoying good food and trying some of the festive drinks.

Check out this fun video I made from the pics we took that night.

I can wait to go back with another group of pickleball friends tomorrow!

Snow Globe at River City Brewery

Posted on December 12, 2023 by under Food and Drink, Things to Do.

One of the best things about the holiday season are all the Christmas pop-up bars that seem to sprout all over the place. I remember going Snowbound at Chicken N Pickle a couple of years ago and it was a ton of fun so now hitting holiday pop-ups are one of my favorite things to do this time of year.

Some friends (from left: Susie Ternes, Cindy Egan, Angie Meyers, Colby Fugit, and Katelyn Stucky) and I went to check out Snow Globe at River City Brewery a couple of weeks ago. It was so much fun! I’m glad that Colby suggested it.

Here are some pictures of our food and festive cocktails:

A few days later, I decided to hit Snow Globe again with the Friday night pickleball crew while my friend Ramon Lozano was in town. Ramon came for the Holiday Hoedown team tournament at Jeff Bally’s (more on this next time).

He came on Friday night so we met up with our friends at Snow Globe after their pickleball session. From left: Kimberly Howe, Debbie Fanning, Donnie Lesperance, Tiffany Lesperance, Parrish Gumeringer, Dave Fanning, Janelle Lindeman, Ramon Lozano, and Kyle Starkel.

If you’ve not had a chance to check out Snow Globe, I highly recommend it. This is definitely the best time to go to River City Brewery because the place is super festive right now. Next up – Jingle! Stay tuned for that post.

Wild Lights at the Zoo

Posted on December 1, 2023 by under Things to Do.

Here are some highlights from when we went to Sedgwick County Zoo to check out this year’s Wild Lights exhibit.

It’s a brand new way to experience the zoo that started a few years ago. You basically get to walk around after dark. It’s not completely dark though because they have these massive, amazing, colorful lantern and light installations. There is a different theme each year and this year it is Alice in Wonderland.

Kendra doesn’t like Alice in Wonderland but she was a good sport and went to check out the exhibit with us anyways. I had four free tickets so Brian, Kendra, Colby, and I went. Honestly, it is totally worth the $15 (member) or $17 (non-member) entrance fee.

Please go support our local zoo and check out this exhibit before they pack it all up for the season! Buy your tickets here.

SIDE NOTE: Here are some pics from when Brian and I first went to check it out a couple of years ago.

Jimmy Buffett’s Margaritaville

Posted on September 15, 2023 by under Things to Do, Travel.

Where were you the weekend that the news broke out of Jimmy Buffett’s passing? Fittingly, we were all at Jimmy Buffett’s Margaritaville at River Spirit Casino Resort in Tulsa. Tiffany and Donnie Lesperance stayed there the weekend of Tulsa Pickleball Classic via hookup from Tracy Garrison and Nikki Baker. They were so generous to share their free accommodation via a couple of out-of-towners.

Since I made that connection happen, Tiffany and Donnie were nice enough to let Brian and I hang out with them at the resort. Katie Merrill and Ryan Kellenbarger came and hung out with us also.

It worked out fantastic for us because the pool at our hotel was closed.

I’m not a huge fan of casinos but this place was super nice and I would totally stay here again. If not for gambling, at least to hang out at the resort pool.
