April Was a Big Month

Posted on June 15, 2025 by under Health, Things to Do.

In addition to all the things that happened in April, the biggest of them all being Brian finally getting his feeding tube removed, we also got to do some fun things like check out the new Glass in Flight 2 exhibit at Botanica.

The Glass in Flight 2 exhibit ends July 30 so be sure to stop by Botanica before it leaves. The exhibit is included with your park admission which is just $12 for adults. Brian and I plan to go back next month after we return from our trip. If you’ve been, let us know what you think in the comments.

Speaking of Easter Sunday

Posted on June 10, 2025 by under Things to Do.

I got Brian to go to “Brunch and Bingo” at Chicken N Pickle on Easter Sunday by bribing him with a free Chicken N Pickle hat. Thanks for the coupon, CNP!

Untitled

After a couple of hours of sitting there, we did not win a darn thing. LOL. The breakfast was good though. If you’re looking to brunch, I highly recommend CNP. Plus, the bingo is free!

A Pitch Perfect Saturday

Posted on April 23, 2025 by under Food and Drink, Movies, Things to Do.

Untitled

The day started out how most of our days start – with coffee. I finally got Brian to try Adelitas Coffee Co (formerly Las Adelitas).

Untitled

While there, we were joined by our good friends Jay and Becca Dill. And then, sure enough, Chris Townley my coffee-run bestie from work, comes walking up. The five of us ended up hanging out for a bit that morning. Jay and Becca had just returned from their European adventure. It was nice catching up.

Untitled

Later that night, I had some friends come over for a Pitch Perfect movie night which all came about because I found out my friend Susie Ternes had never seen Pitch Perfect, one of my most favorite movies of all time.

Untitled

From left: Cindy Egan, Megan Phillips-Nighswonger, me, Monica McGehee, and Susie. Cindy had the idea to make it a pajama party.

Untitled

Susie said she wanted to be there for Brian’s first bite of Ziggy’s pizza post cancer treatments so we decided to serve Ziggy’s pizza and wings that night. Brian fixed himself some food before retiring to the office to play video games.

We only got through 2 movies that night — Pitch Perfect and Pitch Perfect 2 — so we still need another movie night for Pitch Perfect 3. Although, I did watch the third movie a week or so later because I just couldn’t help myself. LOL.

December Round Up

Posted on January 18, 2025 by under Things to Do.

December is one of my favorite times of the year because of all the fun, festive holiday pop-ups. There’s also lots of activities to do. Wild Light at Sedgwick County Zoo is something that starts in October so it’s not technically a December event but it is a fun, seasonal activity that we look forward to each year. The last couple of years we have gone with Kendra Wicks and Colby Fugit. We always enjoy looking at the new displays with them.

Similar to Wild Lights at the zoo, Illuminations at Botanica is something that we also enjoy doing. Brian didn’t have enough energy to go this year so I went with Colby and Grant and Susie Ternes. (NOTE: Grant isn’t pictured below because he took our photo.)

Here are some highlights from my favorite holiday pop-ups.

Susie and Colby organized a holiday pop-up pub crawl with Cindy Egan, Molly Sager and Nicole Mathis while Molly and Nicole were in town for Ryan Kellenbarger’s benefit tournament for ICT SOS. It was so fun hanging out with the ladies and experiencing the wonderful holiday pop-ups with them.

Speaking of Ryan’s charity tournament for ICT SOS, he had it at Tap N Paddles. It was their first tournament at the facility which just opened in November. The tournament had an amazing turnout.

Cindy had her annual Christmas party which was super fun. We also had a pickleball party and white elephant at the Pickle Club. While the month of December had some fun events and activities, this was also the month that Brian really started struggling with eating. He quit joining Chris and me for lunches. Despite this, I did manage to get him out for an outing.

Final outing until things started to get really tough. Hoping we have finally turned the corner, though. Until next time!

2024 Wichita Wicked Brew Tour

Posted on June 28, 2024 by under Things to Do.

The Wicked Brew tour is one of the drink tours that Brian and I most look forward to doing every summer. We usually start at Wichita Brewing Co. but this year we started it at River City Brewery in Old Town.

Stop #1 – River City Brewing Co.

We really like the pizzas at RCB but we also got to try something new this time – pork belly lettuce wraps. They were amazing! In fact, I’m thinking we should go back there soon before it comes off the menu.

Stop #2 – Cocoa Dolce

Untitled

Untitled

Instead of having dessert at RCB, we drove down the street to Cocoa Dolce to pick up our second stamps of the tour.

Stop #3 – Mokas Cafe

Untitled

Untitled

I managed to talk Brian into driving me to Riverside Tennis Center for the iPickle Nation Nation Builder Series round robin mini tournament on one Sunday morning so we stopped by Mokas on the way and picked up our third stamps.

Stop #4 – Pennant Coffee

Untitled

My friend Chris Townley and I went one morning. I had to buy two iced vanilla lattes in order to get two stamps because I didn’t want Brian’s book to fall behind.

Stop #5 – The COOP

Untitled

Untitled

I once again went with my friend Chris. Neither of us had been to the COOP before so it was neat checking out a new place. I’ll create a separate post about the COOP because I took a bunch of photos. First time there, and all. Anyway, I got an iced vanilla latte and a caffe shakerato – two iced drinks so that I could get two stamps and keep Brian’s book on track.

Stop #6 – The Depot

Untitled

Brian and I only cook our Hello Fresh dinners during the week so we can eat out on weekends. On this particular night, we decided to hit the Depot (formerly PourHouse ICT) so we could continue to get Wicked Brew tour stamps. He had a warbeard (his favorite beer from Walnut River) and I had a strawberry summer brew (which counts because it does have beer in it).

Stop #7 – Il Primo Espresso Caffe

Untitled

Brian picked up some breakfast burritos (we love theirs), a plain black coffee for him, and an ice vanilla latte for me. I’m not sure if their remodel is complete at this point but Brian went right when they first reopened their lobby. Everything was still very much under construction.

Stop #8 – Wichita Brewing Co.

Untitled

WBC is always one of our tour stops. Usually it’s our first stop. We ended up going towards the end of our tour this year.

Untitled

Not only do they have good pizzas but they also have great daily specials.

Untitled

Stop #9A – Nortons Brewing Company

Untitled

Untitled

We had to visit a couple of places for #9 because Brian didn’t feel like drinking when we went to Nortons. He was on some special meds and didn’t want to mess it up. I was fully intending to take one for the team and drink a couple of beers but their beers are strong and I could not have another after my first one.

Stop #9B – Fairmount Coffee Co.

Untitled

Untitled

I decided to grab an iced brown sugar latte from Fairmount Coffee one morning to get Brian’s book caught up with mine. I had never been there before so I took advantage of the opportunity to check out a new coffee spot. The shop is super cute and made me wish it was around when I was attending Wichita State.

Stop #10 – Reverie Coffee Roasters

Untitled

Reverie was our final stop this year. We went there for breakfast on our way out of town to Nebraska. Looking back (at this year and previous years), I guess I always end up doing most of the drinking whenever we do these tours. Brian enjoys getting the free shirt, though. Actually, it’s something that we both look forward to doing every year. I’ve even gotten my friend Chris doing it with us too. He was on vacation in the UK recently so he just finished his book this past week. Just in the nick of time too. The guy at the Visit Wichita office said they are about a week and a half away from running out of shirts. Until next year! #SaveTheDate
