Former Pres. Cory Aquino’s Funeral
Posted on August 9, 2009 by Ching under News.
I feel so out of the loop. Not much news coverage about this here in Kansas. It didn’t come through any of my news filters either. If it weren’t for Lea commenting about this on Facebook, I wouldn’t have had any idea. Our sympathy and condolences go out to the Aquino family for their loss.

Wingnuts Game
Posted on July 26, 2009 by Ching under News.
Brian and I had tickets to the Wichita Wingnuts game on Friday so we weren’t at Highlands. Had it not been a text from Misty, I wouldn’t have known that Highlands had closed. I was like, “What?” She told me it was all over the news and twitter. I felt so out of the loop. [Here’s an article that Ron Sylvester wrote about Highlands closing.]
Anyway, I immediately sent text messages to Kurt and Shane to find out what’s going on. It turns out that Highlands has closed temporarily following the judgment on Thursday. They are only closed until they can resume playing KANDU, so it’s not like they’ve closed their doors for good. Everyone is hoping for a favorable judgment in September and that Highlands will re-open thereafter.
The baseball game was a bust. I’m not sure if it was the two bottles of peach lambic I drank at Old Chicago or the news of Highlands closing that made me sick. Brian and I decided to go home early and didn’t finish the game.
It was nice having dinner with Brian’s coworker Kate and her husband, though. They are a lovely couple. We met their eldest daughter, Chelsea, and her husband Jeremy at the baseball game. Chelsea, who is 5’11” tall, was looking very much like Cameron Diaz that day. I wish I had a picture.

News Conference On Tiller Shooting
Posted on May 31, 2009 by Ching under News.
Random violent acts of radical fanaticism (like this) make me not want to live in Wichita. There is a candlelight vigil for Dr. George Tiller tonight in Old Town Square.

Y2K Remix
Posted on April 5, 2009 by Brian under Blog, Family, Life, News.
My dad sent me a link to Wikipedia about a new computer scare. No, its not the Conficker Virus. It’s the Y2K scare all over again. This time it’s Y2k38 and it effects more than just the PC world. According to the article in Wikipedia, The problem affects all software and systems that store system time as a signed 32-bit integer, and interpret this number as the number of seconds since 00:00:00 January 1, 1970.
What does this mean to us. Probably nothing, I have a feeling that all the programmers that worked on the Y2K issue will resolve this issue as well. We have way to many smart people on this planet to allow something like this to happen. Below is a count down for those of you that want to bite your nails for the next 29 years.

For the rest of us in the real world, I think there are more immediate thing that we need to be concerned with. Things like the deteriorating climate due to the excessive use of fossil fuels, the failing economy, the link to child related illness due to pollution levels across the planet or for those really far reaching worriers, how about the proposed end of life as we know it by the year 2012 based on the Incan/Mayan Calendar.
Me, I am simply going to live each day and worry about the things that I can change. I try not to let things that are out of my control interfere with my every day activities. If I did, I probably would never leave the house.
