{"id":40,"date":"2003-03-10T20:41:55","date_gmt":"2003-03-11T02:41:55","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/brubakers.us\/blog\/?p=212"},"modified":"2003-03-10T20:41:55","modified_gmt":"2003-03-11T02:41:55","slug":"introduce-me-as-your-wife-dammit","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/brubakers.us\/?p=40","title":{"rendered":"Introduce Me as Your Wife Dammit"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I&#8217;ve never ever wanted to be a geek so badly in my entire life!\u00c2\u00a0 All of the cool geeks are at <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.sxsw.com\/\"  target=\"see\"><font color=\"#000000\">SXSW<\/font><\/a> having fun.\u00c2\u00a0 I wish that Brian and I could go at least just once.\u00c2\u00a0 Sadly, I don&#8217;t think that he&#8217;ll go for it.\u00c2\u00a0 I could play up the film segment of it.\u00c2\u00a0 I still don&#8217;t think that he&#8217;ll go for it.\u00c2\u00a0 Maybe if it was <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.sundance.org\/\"  target=\"see\"><font color=\"#000000\">Sundance<\/font><\/a>?<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: black\">[ Don&#8217;t bother clicking on it (Sundance link).\u00c2\u00a0 Their site is broke for some reason.\u00c2\u00a0 The page just keeps twitching and won&#8217;t load. \/]<\/span><\/p>\n<p>So anyway we signed our loan today.\u00c2\u00a0 Oh yeah &#8212; didn&#8217;t you hear?\u00c2\u00a0 We had to take out a loan to pay for our new air conditioning unit and furance.\u00c2\u00a0 It wasn&#8217;t too bad, though.\u00c2\u00a0 <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.fahnestockhvac.com\/\"  target=\"see\"><font color=\"#000000\">Fahnestock<\/font><\/a> is doing a special right now where you get the furnace free if you pay for the AC unit and coil and all of the other stuff they charge you for..\u00c2\u00a0 Our total $3100.\u00c2\u00a0 Normal people would have been able to take that from their savings &#8212; not us!\u00c2\u00a0 We are so far in debt that we don&#8217;t have anything extra to even shoot over to a savings account.\u00c2\u00a0 So everytime shit like this happens we have to charge it or get a loan or something, which puts us into even more debt.\u00c2\u00a0 It&#8217;s a vicious cycle!\u00c2\u00a0 At this rate I&#8217;ll never be able to have children!<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: black\">[ Have pity on me and click on the &#8220;Make a Donation&#8221; button at the left to make a donation to the &#8220;help Ching get out of debt so she can start having children&#8221; fund.\u00c2\u00a0 Every penny will be greatly appreciated.\u00c2\u00a0 I promise I won&#8217;t spend it on anything foolish like another coatrack &#8212; err, <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.bowflex.com\/index.asp\"  target=\"see\"><font color=\"#000000\">Bowflex<\/font><\/a>! \/]<\/span><\/p>\n<p>After we signed our loan papers at the <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.intrustbank.com\/Home\/MainHome1.aspx\"  target=\"see\"><font color=\"#000000\">Intrust Bank<\/font><\/a> loan office downtown, Brian and I walked around the corner to <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.picadillygrill.com\/\"  target=\"see\"><font color=\"#000000\">Picadilly Express<\/font><\/a>.\u00c2\u00a0 I&#8217;d forgotten how inexpensive their food is!\u00c2\u00a0 It&#8217;s good food, too!\u00c2\u00a0 So it&#8217;s a really great value!\u00c2\u00a0 For the same amount of money that we would normally spend at a fast food joint (about ten bucks) we both got rotisserie chicken and two side dishes (I got mashed potatoes and some kind of chicken noodle casserole &#8212; looks yucky but tastes yummy &#8212; while Brian got mashed potatoes and corn).<\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s not as good as the rotisserie chicken at <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.thereader.com\/createpage.asp?ContentID=213\"  target=\"see\"><font color=\"#000000\">Red Rock Canyon Grill<\/font><\/a> (about $25 per person &#8212; entree only; salads, starters\/appetizers and desserts are a la carte; plus potent potables and gratuity are extra) but it&#8217;s definitely ten times better than any kind of chicken that you can get for the price that you pay.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking of paying, here&#8217;s the fun part.\u00c2\u00a0 Out of the blue the cashier lady just goes &#8220;I know you from somewhere,&#8221; to Brian\u00c2\u00a0 Not &#8220;Don&#8217;t I know you from somewhere?&#8221; mind you, which is the way that the statement is normally presented.\u00c2\u00a0 She was pretty freakin&#8217; sure of herself.\u00c2\u00a0 Well, kind of &#8212; I&#8217;m not sure how to describe it really.\u00c2\u00a0 She didn&#8217;t form her statement in a questioning way which signifies certainty but she didn&#8217;t speak it with confidence either which implied some doubt.<\/p>\n<p>Anyway, I didn&#8217;t believe her at first.\u00c2\u00a0 I thought, &#8220;Yeah &#8212; whatever.&#8221;\u00c2\u00a0 She was no where near our age bracket and she looked like a church-going bible-thumper (I&#8217;m totally stereotyping her by the way that she looks here &#8212; forgive me, I do that from time to time).\u00c2\u00a0 There ain&#8217;t no way that she&#8217;s met Brian before.\u00c2\u00a0 Well, not in this lifetime at least.<\/p>\n<p>So naturally when she pulled a rabbit out of her hat, I was both impressed and surprised at the same time.\u00c2\u00a0 &#8220;Your name is Brian right?&#8221;\u00c2\u00a0 she persisted.\u00c2\u00a0 &#8220;That&#8217;s right!\u00c2\u00a0 How did you know that?&#8221;\u00c2\u00a0 I asked with my eyes rounder than a billiard ball.\u00c2\u00a0 Picture a two year old who has discovered a present with no name on it.\u00c2\u00a0 I was totally intrigued.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I knew it!\u00c2\u00a0 I knew that I&#8217;d known you from somewhere, she continued.\u00c2\u00a0 &#8220;I&#8217;m Marlissa&#8217;s mom.&#8221;\u00c2\u00a0 Marlissa being an ex-girlfriend of Brian&#8217;s from several years ago.<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;d met her (Marlissa, not her mom) before.\u00c2\u00a0 Well, seen her at least.\u00c2\u00a0 I never got introduced (Brian is just terrible about this sort of stuff).\u00c2\u00a0 I think it would have been awkward anyway because it was at a Subway by my old job (yep, another lunchtime run-in) and she was on the other side of the counter.<\/p>\n<p>She and Brian didn&#8217;t acknowledge each other at all.\u00c2\u00a0 Well, they did in a way..\u00c2\u00a0 She made our sandwiches and took our payment after all but you wouldn&#8217;t have known that they knew each other before.\u00c2\u00a0 Brian didn&#8217;t tell me that she was one of his ex-girlfriends until after we had left.<\/p>\n<p>Her mom is definitely way more cordial than she is.\u00c2\u00a0 From the limited information and experience that I have had with both of them, I&#8217;ve observed that the at-one-time crack-head Marlissa (Brian said that when he was dating Danielle &#8212; another one of his ex-girlfriends &#8212; Marlissa&#8217;s dealer lived a couple of houses down and they&#8217;d see her drive by &#8212; she actually even stopped once, I guess this was when she had a more pleasant disposition but drugs can do that, turn otherwise disagreeable people friendly) and her mom have very little in common except for their genes (maybe).<\/p>\n<p>As Brian and I were driving back to my work, I asked him why he neglected to introduce (after they had their nice &#8220;how have you been&#8221; chit-chat) me just out of curiosity.\u00c2\u00a0 He goes, &#8220;Why?&#8221;\u00c2\u00a0 His point being that it was totally unnecessary.\u00c2\u00a0 She was immaterial &#8212; they hadn&#8217;t seen each other in five years, probably more, and they&#8217;d probably never see each other again.\u00c2\u00a0 I had no reply really.\u00c2\u00a0 I just get KSP sometimes.\u00c2\u00a0 Picture Felix when he feels he&#8217;s being ignored.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I don&#8217;t know baby,&#8221;
