{"id":133,"date":"2003-12-18T19:10:09","date_gmt":"2003-12-19T01:10:09","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/brubakers.us\/blog\/?p=307"},"modified":"2003-12-18T19:10:09","modified_gmt":"2003-12-19T01:10:09","slug":"brians-new-toy","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/brubakers.us\/?p=133","title":{"rendered":"Brian&#8217;s New Toy"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>It&#8217;s all my fault.\u00c2\u00a0 My shopping addiction has totally rubbed off on Brian.\u00c2\u00a0 Now when he gets stressed out, frustrated or bored, he shops &#8212; just like I do.\u00c2\u00a0 We really need to put a stop to this.\u00c2\u00a0 I realize now that it is wrong and we&#8217;re going to try to do better in 2004.<\/p>\n<p>Anyway, last month he bought himself a portable DVD player.\u00c2\u00a0 I&#8217;ve never really understood the usefulness of those things but Brian is a true electronics junkie.\u00c2\u00a0 He can rationalize it anyway he wants.\u00c2\u00a0 All I can say is, if everyone else has one he has to have one.\u00c2\u00a0 That&#8217;s the way he is with his big boy toys.<\/p>\n<p>This time around he spent $200 on a freaking remote control.\u00c2\u00a0 I mean, who the hell spends $200 on a freaking remote?\u00c2\u00a0 It&#8217;s supposed to come free with your electronic device (unless of course it&#8217;s one of those special edition &#8212; read: stolen &#8212; ones).\u00c2\u00a0 Shoot!\u00c2\u00a0 You could buy a DVD player for that price.\u00c2\u00a0 Hell!\u00c2\u00a0 You could even buy a nice TV (small one, but a nice one nonetheless) for that price!<\/p>\n<p>Here is a picture of the horrid monstrosity that is his newest acquisition:<\/p>\n<div align=\"center\"><img src=\"http:\/\/images.bestbuy.com\/BestBuy_US\/images\/products\/4504\/4504147_sa.jpg\" width=\"273\" \/><br \/>\n<a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.bestbuy.com\/site\/olspage.jsp?id=1051806137537&#038;skuId=4504147&#038;type=product\"  target=\"out\"><font color=\"#000000\">Sony Universal Remote Commander RM-AV3000<\/font><\/a><\/div>\n<p>He told me about it while I was at work yesterday.\u00c2\u00a0 See, this is what happens when you leave your husband unsupervised for two seconds.\u00c2\u00a0 Anyway, I can&#8217;t dog him too much for buying it because he is really super-duper excited about this thing.\u00c2\u00a0 He&#8217;s like a little child, telling him there is no Santa Claus would just devastate him.\u00c2\u00a0 Besides, he probably feels the same way about me and my clothes.\u00c2\u00a0 Here is how part of our conversation went:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<blockquote><p>BRIAN: THIS IS SOOOOO COOL!<\/p>\n<p>ME: Does it work?<br \/>\nB: With one button I can turn everything on or off.\u00c2\u00a0 I can program macros to do anything I want!\u00c2\u00a0 I LOVE THIS THING!!!<\/p>\n<p>M: But can it make breakfast for you?<\/p>\n<p>B: I haven&#8217;t gotten to that part of the instructions yet.<\/p>\n<p>M: You&#8217;re nuts.\u00c2\u00a0 I&#8217;m saving this conversation and posting it on my blog.<\/p>\n<p>B: But if we have a machine that is remote controlled that makes breakfast, I can program this thing to run it!!!<\/p>\n<p>B: I am sooo happy.\u00c2\u00a0 I dont need any of the other remotes any more.<\/p>\n<p>M: You&#8217;re such a goober.\u00c2\u00a0 I want a demonstation.\u00c2\u00a0 It better be good too.<\/p>\n<p>B: I&#8217;m going to the dinning room to program that next.<\/p>\n<p>M: I shall wait to be impressed.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>True to form, when I arrived home from work he gave me a little demonstration.\u00c2\u00a0 He has this one button programmed as movie night and, literally, with the push of one button it turns on our big screen TV, the surround sound system and the DVD player.\u00c2\u00a0 He even programmed it to put the TV on the correct channel and to have the DVD automatically eject so all we have to do is put our DVD in and bam, we&#8217;re good to go.<\/p>\n<p>I guess it is pretty cool.\u00c2\u00a0 But me being me, I&#8217;d rather spend $200 on a good coat or a pair of shoes or something.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>It&#8217;s all my fault.\u00c2\u00a0 My shopping addiction has totally rubbed off on Brian.\u00c2\u00a0 Now when he gets stressed out, frustrated or bored, he shops &#8212; just like I do.\u00c2\u00a0 We really need to put a stop to this.\u00c2\u00a0 I realize now that it is wrong and we&#8217;re going to try to do better in 2004.
