Cheap Movie Night Wasn’t So Cheap

Posted on October 6, 2013 by under Date Ideas, Things to Do.

The hubs and I decided to have date night during the middle of the week because we both needed a break from our usual evening routine.

Untitled

We went to the theater from work so we were a little early for our show. Lucky for me, Old Town Warren has Angry Orchard on tap.

Untitled

Being able to have some drinks while waiting for showtime was as definite plus.

Here’s a picture of the drink menu with the list of specials in case you are curious or want to plan your next trip around booze. LOL.

Untitled

We went on a Wednesday because we were planning on having a “cheap movie night” but ended up buying tickets for the director’s suite, which is not cheap.

It had been a while since we’d both been to the director’s suite so Brian wanted to check it out. As you know, what baby wants, baby gets. LOL.

Untitled

Here’s a picture of baby in the empty theater. Getting away from the crowds was one of Brian’s reasons for choosing the director’s suite actually. We figured that, with it being $5 movie night, all of the other auditoriums would be packed.

Untitled

One of the things I like most about Old Town Warren (besides the fact that they have Angry Orchard) is that you can get food service in the theater auditoriums.

One of the things I don’t like is the quality of the food. I made the mistake of ordering chicken tenders. They were terrible. They were chewy in parts and the texture didn’t feel like real chicken. It reminded me of the same pseudo-chicken substance used to make microwaveable chicken nuggets. Blech.

Untitled

Brian had the chicken quesadillas with the cilantro lime chicken. They were actually pretty good, and contained real chicken. LOL.

Next time we find ourselves at Old Town Warren that’s what I’ll be ordering. That or just have dinner elsewhere and skip dinner at the theater altogether.

Unlike the food, the movie did not disappoint. Rush was actually better than I expected. I’m glad that Brian convinced me to go see it.

Il Vicino at Bradley Fair

Posted on October 6, 2013 by under Food and Drink.

We’d been eating out a lot lately because Brian and I had been out of town over the last few weeks and we didn’t have anything in the fridge. We actually didn’t get groceries done until the other day. Brian went to the Dillons in Andover while I was in Zumba class. In the meantime we had no choice but to eat out.

We hit Il Vicino after the Wichita Flight Festival last Sunday because we hadn’t been there in a while and we’d almost forgotten how much we like it. I had at least until I saw Mama Dill’s post about going to Il Vicino.

Untitled

Not being overly adventurous, we stuck with our usual: Caesar salad with chicken and a vespa. We normally split both.

Untitled

I forgot to ask for them to leave the anchovies off. I don’t mind them but Brian doesn’t like anchovies so he had to pick them off.

Il Vicino Wood Oven Pizza - Bradley Fair on Urbanspoon

Here’s what the vespa looks like. It has chicken, spinach, and tomatoes. I love all the flavor that they put in the chicken. I also add a splash of that delicious spicy oil they have at the table for even more flavor. So yummy!

Anyway, Brian was cleaning his wallet yesterday and found an old frequent buyer card from when we used to go to Il Vicino all the time. We had already gotten enough stamps for a free pizza or sandwich. Ugh. We could have used it last weekend when we went. Oh, well. I guess we will just have to go back. LOL.

Speaking of going back, when we go back to attend the Wichita Flight Festival next year, we are going to have to wear sunblock because Brian got one heck of a sunburn that day. He was redder than the tomatoes in our sandwich!

MOMIX: Botanica

Posted on October 5, 2013 by under Things to Do, Videos.

I am super excited to see MOMIX: Botanica tonight at the Wichita Orpheum. Huge thanks to my friend Christina for taking me. Brian would never have sat through the performance. It would have been a waste of a ticket. LOL.

Our First Attempt at Chocolate Cobbler

Posted on October 4, 2013 by under Food and Drink.

You have no idea how easy this is! Even I was surprised.

Guess what just came out of the oven. Chocolate cobbler! Yum!

    Here’s the instructions.

  • Preheat the oven to 350 degrees.
  • Melt 6 tablespoons of butter in an 8 X 8 baking dish while the oven preheats.
  • In a medium bowl, stir together 1 cup of self-rising flour, 3/4 cup sugar, and 1 1/2 tablespoons of unsweetened cocoa powder. Stir in 1/2 cup of milk and 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract until smooth.
  • Spoon batter over the melted butter in the baking dish.
  • In another bowl, mix 1 cup of white sugar and 1/4 cup of cocoa powder, and sprinkle this dry mixture over the batter.
  • Boil 1 1/2 cups of water and slowly pour over the top of the mixture in the baking dish. Do not stir.
  • Bake in 350 degree oven for 30 minutes or until set.
  • Serve slighly warm with ice cream.

This is what the chocolate cobbler looks like fresh out of the oven.

Oh yeah!

It was gooey and amazingly delicious. I was impressed that our first attempt turned out so well. The only thing that could have made it better is if we had some vanilla ice cream, which we didn’t have. However, we are going to buy some ice cream so when we make this for the Post-Halloween Party we’ll be able to serve it with the proper accompaniment. I can’t wait!

Livingston’s Diner

Livingston's Diner on Urbanspoon

This was breakfast on Saturday — after Zumba, before the dentist and before picking up Brian at the airport. I ended up at Livingston’s Diner after driving to both The Good Egg and Jimmy’s Diner. There was a long wait at both places. I’m glad not a lot of people know about Livingston’s Diner.

Breakfast was good but not as good as Brian’s breakfast spread. LOL. It hit the spot though.
