Stearman Field Bar and Grill
Posted on December 28, 2016 by Ching under Food and Drink.
After so many missed opportunities to try Stearman Field Bar and Grill, it finally happened. Brian and I finally got to check it out. Finally.
Brian and I went for one of my Rotary Club’s after hours socials. I’ve never made one of these because I’m usually out of town or I’ve already got another commitment or we don’t have it for that month.
I was off work for a couple of days last week due to illness. It wasn’t until I got back to work that I saw the invite. Brian and I were so excited that we could actually go.
We’ve never been because it’s located in Benton and it always seemed so far away. Brian and I RSVP’d but I actually thought we would be late for the 6 PM event start time because Brian doesn’t get off work until 5 PM and it usually takes him a good 30 minutes to get home. After we mapped it, we were surprised to find out that the restaurant is only a little over 20 minutes away from our house. We were both like, “We can totally make it on time!” That is until Brian found out that he had to pick up some prescription medication for grandma and her doctor doesn’t have the ability to call or fax prescriptions to the pharmacy. He literally had to drive all the way to Andover to pick up the prescription and then take it to the pharmacy and wait almost 45 minutes for them to fill it.
It was kind of a roller coaster of anticipation. At first I anticipated being a few minutes late, then we thought we would be on time, and then we ended up being super duper late (as in an hour late).
Brian just wanted to skip it after we realized how late we would be but then I told him that we already said that we would make it and the invite said come and go so maybe other people will arrive late also. No such luck. We were the only ones late. And, everyone else was pretty much finishing their meal when we got there.
On the bright side, everyone was still there so at least we got to say hi to people. And, the club picked up our dinner tab so it’s not like we had to pay for dinner. Neither of us expected that as we’d never been to one of these after hours Andover Rotary Club get togethers before.
Here are some pictures of the restaurant interior.
I had the stuffed pork which was on special that night.
Brian had the chicken fried steak. It’s not exactly a low cholesterol meal but he only ate part of it (not even half).
Both of our meals were delicious. I didn’t try Brian’s but he said that it was even better than the chicken fried steak at Cy’s Hoof and Horn, which means it’s amazing because the chicken fried steak at Cy’s is really good.
Anyway, we’re already planning our next trip back. We decided we will return for breakfast/brunch when the weather is nice so we can see planes flying about and get the whole Stearman experience. Don’t worry. I will be taking lots of pictures and writing about it here. Stay tuned!

Belated Anniversary Treat for Mom and Dad
Posted on June 28, 2015 by Ching under Family, Food and Drink.
During last weekend’s visit, we treated Donna and David to our favorite steak place — Cy’s Hoof & Horn Supper Club in Sedgwick. It’s a long ways from our home in Southeast Wichita but totally worth the drive. They have the best chicken fried steak I’ve ever had and it’s a huge portion. It’s more than enough for two people to share.
Of course, I ordered the chicken fried steak because it’s my favorite thing on the menu. Donna ordered the same. David had the prime rib special.
Brian wanted to try one of Cy’s legendary burgers but, after he told them to take everything out of it, it wasn’t so impressive. LOL.
He said the onion rings were good, though.
The homemade dessert that night was banana walnut cake with ice cream.
I’m not sure what was going on that night. Maybe they were just super busy. The food was good but not has good as we’ve had it there. The service was slow and my mashed potatoes were on the cold side. Though I wished that it was hotter, I didn’t say anything. I hope that mom and dad enjoyed the dinner despite the service shortcomings.
Belated happy anniversary, Mom and Dad B!

Dad’s 60th Birthday Dinner
Posted on April 17, 2015 by Ching under Family, Food and Drink.
And we take a break from all of the DC blog posts to show you pictures from dad’s 60th birthday dinner at Cy’s Hoof & Horn.
They say that it’s better to spend money on experiences rather than buying things so rather than buying a present for dad we opted buy dinner for the family instead.
For dad’s birthday Brian and I took mom, dad, and Jenni to our new favorite place to eat steak. Jenni got the filet mignon, which is what I had the last time. I thought it was good but I really, really liked Brian’s chicken fried steak so I ended up getting the chicken fried steak this time around.
Brian and dad both got chicken fried steak also.
I don’t know why we each had to get one, all three of us could have shared one piece. The chicken fried steak portions at Cy’s are enormous.
Mom got a steak salad. Only my mom would get a salad at a steak place. LOL. At least her salad was topped with slices of beef, I guess.
Brian and I can’t wait for his mom and dad to visit because we want to take them to Cy’s also. Now that we’ve discovered Cy’s we just want to bring everyone there.
Cy’s isn’t just a great place to eat steak, it’s a great place for a nice family dinner. I hope dad enjoyed his 60th birthday dinner just as much as we did.

Because We Absolutely Love Food
Posted on February 7, 2015 by Ching under Food and Drink, Reviews.
Because we love food, here are some more food pictures for you. These pictures are from our dinner with Jim and Karen (aka our favorite neighbors) last Saturday at Cy’s Hoof & Horn in Sedgwick.
Brian had the chicken fried steak. It was big enough for three people to share and it was fantastic. The breading had excellent flavor and texture. This was easily the best chicken fried steak I’d ever had.
I’m totally getting it on our next trip there.
Jim had the prime rib, which is on special every Saturday. I hear that it is amazing.
Karen and I both had the filet.
I’m not much of a steak eater but my filet was perfect. I asked for it medium well because I don’t like any pink in my steak. My steak was pretty darn good. I didn’t even need any steak sauce.
For dessert we got to try their lemon merengue and chocolate pies. Both were very good.
Cy’s Hoof & Horn is known by many names. I’ve heard it referred to as Cy’s Place or just Hoof & Horn. The sign out front reads The Hoof & Horn Supper Club.
That’s also the name listed on the menu.
We arrived a little after five thirty, which seemed to be the perfect time. More diners arrived shortly after and the place started to get pretty busy.
Here’s a picture of Brian with our neighbors Jim and Karen.
This is only the second time we’ve been out to dinner with Jim and Karen but we really enjoy their company. We had good conversation and the food was great. I’m really glad they recommended Cy’s Place or Hoof & Horn – whatever you want to call it.
The food is so good that we can’t wait to return. We are definitely taking Brian’s parents there on their next trip to Wichita. If you’ve never been, I highly recommend going. It may take 30-45 minutes to get there depending on where you live in Wichita, but it is totally worth the drive.
