Five Years of Anniversaries

Posted on August 18, 2007 by under Life.

Time flies when you’re having fun, or so the saying goes anyway. I can’t believe it has been five years. Then again, I can. Other couples have married, divorced, and re-married. Yet here we are still together, against all odds.

I think one of the keys to our success is that we always remember celebrate each milestone. We think of ways to celebrate each anniversary in a special way. There need not be much fanfare, no fancy gifts to each other, and the celebration doesn’t need to be extravagant. We just make sure we do something memorable. After all, we are the greatest gift we could ever give to one another.

Dinner and Dancing
This was the theme for our first year. We went to dinner at Red Rock, followed by dancing at Copa Cabana, and America’s Pub. We had a blast!

Celebrating our 2nd Anniversary in Kansas City

Shopping at Country Club Plaza
We started with a couples massage at Healing Waters before driving to Country Club Plaza for the weekend. We did some major shopping and also got to dine at several wonderful restaurants: Kona, Cheesecake Factory, PF Chang’s, and Reverse. Plus Mom and Dad Brubaker gave us a gift certificate to Red Rock so we got to dine there again.

Castle Inn Riverside
Most of our third anniversary was spent at the Historic Campbell Castle. We stayed in The Royal Court, the inn’s best room, for two nights. We also got a couples massage at Healing Waters.

Poker Tournament at Harrah’s
Our fourth anniversary was spent at Harrah’s Hotel and Casino in North Kansas City. We entered our first honest-to-goodness casino poker tournament. I didn’t do well, but Brian took second place. So it was still awesome!

Our Jamaican Adventure
Our fifth and most memorable anniversary celebration yet. We celebrated a month early so as not to disrupt my studies. You can check out all of our pictures on Flickr. We also went to the drive-in on our actual anniversary weekend. I’d never been to the drive-in before so it was a real treat.

Incidentally, if you want to know what happened in between anniversaries (the good times and the bad, and more good times) our blog is now available in print. You can order your copy here. Enjoy!
