The Bistro at NICHE

Posted on November 17, 2023 by under Food and Drink.

I’ve been to the Bistro at NICHE a couple of times now and have enjoyed my lunch both times. The first time was with my friend Chris Townley. Here are pictures of our lunch that day.

The chicken sandwich looked amazing and the fries were perfection.

I had the squash soup with the crispy pork belly and it was amazing.

We went back and brought Brian with a couple of weeks later. Chris really loved the chicken sandwich so he got it again. I didn’t take a picture of it the second time around. I got the pho this time, which was good but not as good as pho that you would get at an actual Vietnamese restaurant.

Brian got grilled cheese and tomato soup which absolutely loved.

NICHE (National Institute for Culinary and Hospitality Education) is basically Wichita State University’s culinary arts school. I believe it’s run by the students which is fantastic because they are getting practical, real-life, hands-on experience.

They don’t have counter clerks. You basically just order on the tablet at the ordering desk or you can order online via your phone or computer, which is great because then you can place your order before you leave your desk and then ideally your food will be ready once you get there.

There’s limited seating in the Bistro area right by their open kitchen or you could take your food to the lobby area which has more seating. NICHE is new to the downtown Wichita landscape but it has been a really great addition. I will continue to support it to hopefully help ensure it succeeds. We need schools and business to collaborate and we need more places like these. Until next time, GNG.
