New Beanies for Grandma

Posted on January 21, 2018 by under Projects.

Someone (whose first name starts with the letter B) didn’t tell me that grandma wanted new crochet beanies for Christmas. I found out on Christmas day when grandma mentioned it. I asked Brian about it that night before bed.

ME: Why didn’t you tell me?

BRIAN: I only found out on Friday. I didn’t think you would have time to make one.

Anyway, I felt really bad so I decided to get right on it during my short break from work over the holidays. Amazingly enough, I was able to complete one hat in about four hours. Not bad for a novice.

I was so impressed with myself that I decided to make another one the next day.

Here are pics of the two beanies I made.

Brian delivered the beanies to grandma while I was teaching my New Year’s Eve Zumba class and he took photos for me. He said she really liked them which makes me super happy.

I may not have gotten them done in time for Christmas but at least I got them done in time for the cold weather. It has been super cold here the last two weeks. This is the first weekend we’ve had decent weather.

Anyway, I love how the hats (which, if you notice, are two different styles — since I just make these on the fly without a pattern, no two are ever identical) turned out. This has encouraged me to pick up crocheting again. Hopefully, I’ll finally learn how to read crochet patterns and learn to make some new things this year.

Wichita Flag Painting Do-Over

Posted on January 21, 2018 by under Things to Do.

Brian and I went to paint Wichita Flags at Paint the Towne the day after Christmas. I asked him to do it with me for a couple of reasons. First, because it’s super fun and, secondly, I wanted a do-over as I didn’t like how my painting turned out. He is far more artistic than I am so I figured he would be able to create us a masterpiece that we would be able to proudly display at home.

Here are pictures from our painting activity.

This guy always looks so serious no matter what he’s doing.

Untitled

This is the painting that we did when I went with the Westar Women’s Network ladies. However, they had the “Wichita” stencils this time so we got to paint this other version instead.

Untitled

Here’s Brian’s work in progress.

Untitled

Brian kept his pretty clean. I always hate how mine turn out.

Here we are with our finished paintings.

Both of mine are on display (hidden) in the basement — one in each bedroom down there. Brian’s masterpiece is on display upstairs, in the hallway that leads to our master bedroom. His work looks amazing so I don’t mind having it upstairs where people can see and enjoy it.

My Collection of Dance Games

Posted on January 16, 2018 by under Games, Shopping, Wishlist.

I asked Brian to take me to Game Stop before we had my last Zumba World Party party because I wanted to beef up my collection of dancing games. We found some games at Game Stop but we didn’t remember what I already had correctly so we ended up getting a duplicate of Just Dance 2016. Brian had to take the game back the next day since I already had it. It worked out great for him though because he ended up getting one of the games he wanted.

In the meantime, we didn’t want something like this to happen again so we decided to take a picture of all my dancing games. Next time we go to the store to pick up a new game for me, we can consult my collection first and then we won’t end up mistakenly buying the same games over again.

Here’s what I have so far..

Untitled

Of course I have Zumba World Party. This is the whole reason that we bought me an XBOX and Kinect to begin with.

I also have several Just Dance games.

Just Dance 2016 is the one we ended up buying again on accident. I didn’t realize I already had it. The ones I’m missing from the series are actually Just Dance, Just Dance 2, Just Dance 3, Just Dance 2017, and Just Dance 2018. I don’t really much care about the first three Just Dance games but I did order Just Dance 2017 since they didn’t have it at Game Stop. I’m waiting for the price of the latest game in the series, Just Dance 2018, to drop in price before I buy it.

As far as Dance Central games go, I have these ones…

I think these are the only ones they ever made in the series, though. Do you guys know of any dancing game that I should definitely add to my collection?

Favorite Pics from Christmas

Posted on January 11, 2018 by under Events, Family, Food and Drink, Zumba.

Christmas Eve was AMAZING! I completed two Zumba classes (Missy’s and mine) with a Sneaky Santa sandwiched in between. Some friends danced with me twice that day and we even took an after pic.

Untitled

That night we went to my parents’ house for our annual Christmas Eve celebration (Noche Buena) where we feasted on lots of yummy Filipino food.

Brian and Quentin were both wearing their Shocker tees that night.

The next day we had grandma over for Christmas.

Untitled

We had breakfast and then opened presents over video chat with Brian’s parents in Oklahoma. That took a lot out of grandma, apparently. Here she is taking an nap while Saki served as lookout.

You can see other pics that we took on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day in our Flickr album. Enjoy!

Zumba World Party Party 2.0

Posted on January 8, 2018 by under Events.

Untitled

I didn’t get to take as many pics of the dancing during the Zumba World Party Party as I did the last time but Missy got a ton of great video footage which you can find on the Facebook event here.

Untitled

I did, however, get some awesome photos during the optional White Elephant gift exchange. I was mean and made everyone go by age instead of drawing numbers.

Untitled

There were some gems in there but no toilet seat and plunger this year. We still don’t know who brought those to the last White Elephant gift exchange we had at the house. LOL. No one would fess up.

Untitled

Missy was so excited to get these blankets, which promptly got stolen.

Untitled

Laurie got a nice bowl and plate set.

Untitled

There were lots of chocolates this time. Speaking of, I have some chocolates to eat at home! I should have brought them here with me. Darn it!

Untitled

The irony of the gift that Meader got is that Holly can’t have peanuts.

Untitled

Deanna got some booze.

Untitled

Holly got the Zumba goodies that I hid inside a chocolate box.

Untitled

Brandon stole the throw blankets from Missy.

Untitled

Thus, the sad face.

Untitled

Untitled

Missy got her presents stolen multiple times, which we all found hilarious.

Untitled

I think she finally ended up with this one.

Untitled

Brynden ended up stealing the throw blankets from Brandon.

Untitled

Kari ended up with the Zumba shirt, which Brian didn’t even realize that I had wrapped for him so he could participate in the White Elephant gift exchange with us. He didn’t even know he had a gift or which one was his. LOL.

Untitled

Anyway, it was super fun having everyone over. We’ll have to do this again soon. Hopefully, we’ll do it more than once a year.
