When we found out that mom, Jenni, Sonnie Jay and Reuel were having lunch at Taste & See on Tuesday, Brian and I immediately checked our calendars to see if we could join them. Why? Because we love, love, love Taste & See and I figured mom was buying. I take free food whenever I can get it. LOL. Although, even free food is never free. You pay for it by getting fat. Blech. I’m going to have to hit it hard at the gym after today.

Anyway, I’m sure you’re looking for food porn so here you go…

This is my chicken pabellon wrap.

Sonnie Jay’s Philly is on the left and mom’s SSB is on the right.

Brian’s hamburguesa, which looks so yummy I wish I could reach into the computer screen and take a bite. I didn’t get a picture of Reuel’s Cubano, but you all have seen what those look like. It’s what Brian usually orders when we go.

Jenni had a Philly also, but they put it in a to-go box. She arrived late and mom didn’t know that she had taken the afternoon off. Mom thought that she’d have to immediately return to work and wouldn’t have time to eat lunch with us. Thus, the to-go container.

For dessert we had a couple orders of noodlini, which threw me for a loop because it doesn’t look like noodles at all. I’m not sure who came up with that name. LOL. It’s basically a deep fried banana spring roll, kind of like the Filipino turon but with a twist.

We also had cuatro leches cake, which I could eat an entire pan of in one sitting if left to my own devices. Brian would never allow that, though. Cuatro leches is like the tres leches dessert that you get in many Latin American restaurants. It’s almost a dessert staple or must have on your restaurant menu because people will inevitably ask for it. Anyway, Chef Jason uses cuatro not tres leches because he just has to one-up everyone. Ha ha ha ha!

Taste & See on Urbanspoon

I’m really glad that Sonnie Jay and Reuel got to experience Taste & See because it is one of our favorite places to eat in Wichita. Plus, every trip to Taste & See is an experience because of the whole open kitchen concept and the TV screens all over the place that show the chef’s every move. The whole Taste & See concept is so perfect for Chef Jason’s personality. He is a natural showman.

Sonnie Jay said the concept might not fly so much where they’re from in Norway because most chefs like their privacy. Not Chef Jason, though. He enjoys being the center of attention. You can’t hide this guy in a closed kitchen. It just wouldn’t happen.

Anyway, from what I’ve heard of Scandinavian food they cook pretty weird stuff like antelope and horse and other things that I wouldn’t even think of eating. I’m not sure I really want to see those dishes prepared. LOL. Perhaps a closed kitchen is the best way to go for some cuisines.

Mom, thank you for buying all of us lunch! It is always appreciated. And thank you to Chef Jason for making such delicious food! Brian and I will be returning for dinner sometime soon for sure.
