Archive for August 2011
Brian and I started our weekend off at Nilla’s. Neither of us had much luck that night. We both got knocked out, almost back to back, shortly after the break. On the plus side, we got knocked out early enough that we could make to Suede for some salsa dancing. We hadn’t been out there in several weeks.
On Saturday night, Brian and I attended Chef Jason Febres’ sushi class at Taste & See. It was loads of fun. I can’t wait to take another one of his cooking classes!
This afternoon we had our 85-minute couples massage at Healing Waters. It’s our anniversary gift to one another. We were originally going to go with Serenity, our usual and Brian’s favorite, but they took forever to post their August specials. I think it was already mid-month before they had it up on their web site. We don’t really like waiting until the last minute to schedule our stuff, so I went ahead and booked with Healing Waters. I’m actually kind of glad I did, as it had been several years since we’ve been. The last time we had massages at Healing Waters, they were still on Douglas.
Their new location is quite impressive. It’s a dozen times better than the old place. The relaxation area is much bigger and boasts a great view of the lake and waterfall. The locker room is really nice also. There’s even a sauna in there. Brian said they don’t have one in the men’s locker room. Yet another reason why it’s great to be a woman! LOL.
Sometimes it’s not enough to just celebrate your anniversary in one night/day or one weekend. Many times we find ourselves celebrating for an entire week or an entire month. Our next anniversary-related outing will be The Script concert at Hartman Arena in a couple of weeks. That should be it for a while. Although, I kind of like this celebrating all the time thing. I think we should start celebrating our marriage not just on our anniversary date, weekend, or month, but throughout the year.
My belts fit me again! Woot!
Speaking of… Brian was wondering why I didn’t buy any clothes at Kohl’s on Saturday. Well, for one, we spent way too much already. We did pretty good, though. $100 usually only gets Brian a pair of pants and a shirt at Express, if that. At Kohl’s your money goes a long way. Brian got two long-sleeved dress shirts, one short-sleeved button down shirt, and a nice pair of dress pants.
I told him that I didn’t need to buy clothes because we were going to my mom and dad’s the next day. I was dropping off some of my larger clothes in exchange for smaller ones. I was hoping that she still had some of my old clothes that I had taken over there when I got too big to fit in them. I never really bought trendy stuff, so most of my old clothes are still wearable. Anyway, as luck would have it, she had some of my old stuff and her own stuff that she no longer wanted. I left with five pairs of dress pants. Score!
In the meantime, I can keep wearing jeans to work until September 2 since we’re doing some fundraising at work. When my time’s up, I’ve got some dress pants that fit. Then come November, Brian and I can do our real shopping. FTW!
I’m so glad that mom kept a lot of clothes that I’d taken over there over the years. She saved me a ton. Thanks, mom!
Somehow you always end up waiting in the room for several minutes before the doctor comes in… It never fails…
ME: I’m so gassy right now. I think I’m going to fart.
BRIAN: OMG. You’re going to let it rip just as the doctor walks in the room.
ME: Hey, at least it’s not while he’s doing a pelvic exam. It could be worse.
BRIAN: You’re right.
So I let out a couple of loud ones, and we laugh. A couple of seconds later…
ME: Ewww.. It’s stinky! I think we need to open the door or something.
Bwa ha ha ha ha ha! Thankfully, the doctor took a long time and the foul odor was gone by the time he entered the room. =P
So Brian and I were sitting in the theater waiting for our movie to begin when the previews of upcoming movies started playing on the screen. We got to see the trailer for The Vow, the new Rachel McAdams/Channing Tatum movie. It looks like it’s going to be a real tearjerker. Right up my alley.
“Will you take me to see this movie?” I whispered to Brian. He said he had already planned on it since he figured I would want to go see it.
After that trailer the preview for the new Sherlock Holmes movie came on and he whispered back to me, “Will you take me to see this one?” I have no objections because he’s taking me to see my movie and I love, love, love Robert Downey Jr. I guess we have some movie dates coming up. 🙂
We attended Carla’s birthday dinner last night at Bella Luna Cafe. Her birthday cake was really cool. It’s the coolest “grownup” birthday cake I’d ever seen. I say that because kids always have really neat birthday cakes, and adults have boring rectangular ones. Well, this one was rectangular but it was very creative. I liked all the details, including the label on the shoebox and the little chocolate shoes. The cake was yummy also.
Not really part of the diet, but Brian and I made an exception. Besides, we didn’t each have a piece. We just shared one slice between the two of us. Though, I must confess, I ate three little chocolate shoes that night. And I also ate the mint chocolate stick that the restaurant gives you at the end of your meal. (Sorry, John!)
Afterward, the rest of the group went to see Livy High at America’s Pub. Brian and I are not familiar with the band and I still owed him our anniversary movie, so we split with the group and went to see Crazy, Stupid, Love. It was actually pretty good. It starts out kind of slow, but the climax is really funny. It comes together really well at the end.
P.S. I wore my shiny gray futuristic-looking Bebe dress last night. So we were a tad over-dressed for the movies. I was only in a denim skirt and my favorite white BR tank when Jenni and Anthony showed up last night. But, after seeing what Jenni was wearing, I figured I was under-dressed for dinner and should change. You know people say something, but their facial expression really tells a different story? She told me I didn’t have to change clothes, but the look on her face said I did. Thank God I was able to find a dress that fits! I also relished the opportunity to wear my WH|BM slingbacks that I’ve only worn twice since I’ve gotten it. The first time at Nick and Carmen’s wedding and then again at Richard and Amy’s wedding. I was lame and wore the same outfit to both weddings. =P Come to think of it, I don’t think I’ve worn that WH|BM dress since then. I hope it still fits!
