Boston Here We Come

Posted on June 26, 2011 by under Travel.

Less than a week before we leave for Boston. Woot! I’m starting to get really excited. Well, we’re really flying into Hartford, CT first and then working our way to Boston throughout the week. Here are some of the trip highlights:

  • Dinner at Debbie Wong’s with the Dills – I hope it’s good because they’ve been really talking it up.
  • Trip to Foxwoods and Mystic – I’m hoping we get to check out Mystic Pizza, the restaurant made famous by the Julia Roberts’ movie of the same name. I hope it lives up to its reputation.
  • Harvest Cafe in Simsbury
  • Tubing in Farmington
  • James Taylor at Tanglewood – This was going to be my favorite part of the trip because at the time we were making our plans, I’d never seen James Taylor perform live before; but then Brian and I went to see him when he played at the Intrust Bank Arena a coupe of months ago. I’m still excited about it, though.
  • Boston Segway Tour
  • Red Sox vs. Blue Jays on 4th of July, Fireworks, Boston Harborfest
  • Scoot around Martha’s Vineyard

I’ve never been to Hartford and Boston before so I’m letting the Dills take the lead on this. I’m just going to follow whatever they have in store for us, which is a huge departure from my usual MO of being in charge of creating the itinerary. LOL.

Brian participated a great deal in the planning. For me, I was tired of being the trip planner on all of our past travels so I decided to just relax and go with the flow. And take lots of pictures. 🙂

Cheese and Crackers, Anyone?

We had fun at the Phelpi’s last night. Brian and I brought the wines that we had gotten from Wamego a couple of weeks ago: Fraidy Cat from Oz Winery and Purple Crush (K-State wine, but Cory drank some anyway) from Vin Vivante. Brian also brought the bottle of Funky Llama that Jay got for him.

Becca brought a bottle of Skinny Girl Margarita and then Cory and April had a couple bottles from Smoky Hill Winery. I wanted some Sweet Lady and was looking forward to it, but we didn’t get to it last night. I think I have a couple of bottles of it here, though.

The guys were slow to drink because they were preoccupied with Mortal Kombat.

Look at that concentration. =P

Many thanks to Cory and April for having us over last night. We had a great time.

I Must Be Shrinking

Posted on June 21, 2011 by under Health, Shopping.

Brian and I went to Old Navy today to pick up a pair of shorts for me so I can use my Old Navy Groupon before it expired. We meant to use it on Saturday when Brian picked up some new clothes, but we forgot all about it. We only remembered to use the gift card that he got from his parents for his birthday. If I would have thought of it, we would have been able to reduce the amount that we charged to our credit card. Brian got a ton of new stuff to replenish his wardrobe since he is down to mediums now.

Anyway, we couldn’t really apply the Groupon to a previous purchase so we figured we’d just have to go back and pick up something inexpensive that we can use our Groupon on. What a racket right? You buy a Groupon thinking that you’ll be saving mucho dinero, but really you just end up buying stuff that you probably wouldn’t have bought otherwise. Are you really saving money? Well, I guess you do as long as you’re not forgetful like I am. I really need to quit buying Groupons just for the sake of buying them.

The good news is that my new pair of shorts only cost me .73 cents. Cheapest shorts I ever bought! LOL. Oh, the other good news is that I can now squeeze myself into size 2s in Old Navy bottoms. Who would have thought? Although, I ended up buying the size 4s. They are a little loose but I got them because they felt more comfortable around my thighs, which are annoyingly huge. Also, I’ve never been all that impressed with the quality of Old Navy garments, so I think they might shrink when I put them in the dryer. In which case they’ll fit me perfectly after.

I told Brian that I’m going to have to try on my summer clothes before we pack them for our trip because they might not fit right. At least I know I’ll have a pair of shorts that fit me that I can bring on the trip. I may just have to settle for looking yagit for a while, until I can buy some smaller clothes. I know for sure that I need some new dress pants for work. My Express 6s that used to fit me perfectly now fit me like my old Eddie Bauer 6s. I haven’t been a size 4 in Express in years so this is quite exciting! I’ve decided to hold off on buying new work pants until after we return from Boston, though. I’m kind of picky when it comes to work pants. I think I might just go shopping on the Thursday or Friday after we return from our trip.

Anyhow, I just wanted to share that exciting news. It’s a slow and gradual process, but I think I’m actually returning to my old size. Never in a million years did I think that would be possible. Now I’m thinking that I just might be able to get size 2 this year if I keep up this level of physical activity. Which isn’t bad really, considering that I’m doing things that I thoroughly enjoy doing and I get to be around hot, sexy ladies all the time. I love, love, love my fellow Zumba girls!

More Pics from Wamego

Posted on June 18, 2011 by under Free Stuff, Travel.

Brian and I saw this sign off the highway about free wine tastings at Oz Winery so we decided to go check it out. That’s actually what brought us to Wamego. LOL.

Oz Winery is a neat little winery located in downtown Wamego.

There’s also Vin Vivante down the street. This is a picture of Brian with the proprietor.

Wamego reminds me of Peabody. Brian and I went on a daytrip there a few years ago when we saw on TV that they were giving away free land. LOL.

I just love checking out small towns. There’s always a pleasant surprise. In this case, the free wine tastings were a bonus!
