I ran into Suzie and John a few weeks ago at Heroes. This was after we returned from our anniversary trip to Jamaica but before school started back up so I could still play poker. Anyway, they were telling us about Jonathan and Julie’s trip to Tahoe. Jonathan is their son. Brian and I met Jonathan and Julie at Fingers years ago. This was right when we first started playing APL/bar poker. Anyway, Jonathan and Julie are both avid poker players. It was no surprise when they set their wedding date for July 7, 2007.
Suzie told me that they really wanted to honeymoon abroad but they didn’t apply for their passports in time so they end up honeymooning in Tahoe. She said they had a blast. Well, there really are a lot of wonderful vacation spots in the States. Lake Tahoe is one. There’s always something to do there year round.
There’s skiing and snowboarding. In fact, you can check out a map of Tahoe ski resort here. There’s shopping, gaming, nightlife, hiking, mountain biking, boating, beaches, golf, and dining. There’s really something for everyone.
If you’re not completely sold on vacationing in Tahoe, check out these 360 virtual tours. The views are breathtaking. Sand Harbor Beach is just spectacular!
Besides the 360 virtual tours, the web site also offers live webcams to entice you to go. I don’t know about you guys, but I’m sold. After I told Brian that they have casinos there too, he was sold as well. See you guys there!

We finally got a chance to eat at Brint’s Diner. We’d been dying to check out the place ever since we saw them featured on the first episode of Diners, Drive-ins and Dives on The Food Network. The first time we went they were closed. We didn’t get a chance to return again until Saturday.
We went there after my waxing and before running errands. I had two eggs, corned beef hash, hashbrowns, and toast. Brian had the one-two-three (one egg, two strips of bacon, and three fluffy pancakes) and a side of hashbrowns. The food was alright. It reminds me of the food at the diner we ate at in Peabody, though not quite as good. The service was okay. I think the nostalgia or novelty is what brings people back. And, of course, Sandi — she’s super nice.
You can tell that most of the patrons are regulars. They all know each other by name. Though, business has picked up considerably since the airing of the TV episode so there are more non-regulars now. Brian and I being prime examples.
It’s funny how we never even knew the place existed, and we probably never would have had it not been for The Food Network. Brian’s dad is familiar with the place, though. He’d dined there several times before. It’s a hole in the wall that is tucked behind a bread shop so it’s kind of hard to find. Also not in the best neighborhood so it’s not really the kind of place you invite people to.
I think Brian and I will probably return. We still have to try the other menu items.
Time flies when you’re having fun, or so the saying goes anyway. I can’t believe it has been five years. Then again, I can. Other couples have married, divorced, and re-married. Yet here we are still together, against all odds.
I think one of the keys to our success is that we always remember celebrate each milestone. We think of ways to celebrate each anniversary in a special way. There need not be much fanfare, no fancy gifts to each other, and the celebration doesn’t need to be extravagant. We just make sure we do something memorable. After all, we are the greatest gift we could ever give to one another.
Dinner and Dancing
This was the theme for our first year. We went to dinner at Red Rock, followed by dancing at Copa Cabana, and America’s Pub. We had a blast!
Shopping at Country Club Plaza
We started with a couples massage at Healing Waters before driving to Country Club Plaza for the weekend. We did some major shopping and also got to dine at several wonderful restaurants: Kona, Cheesecake Factory, PF Chang’s, and Reverse. Plus Mom and Dad Brubaker gave us a gift certificate to Red Rock so we got to dine there again.
Castle Inn Riverside
Most of our third anniversary was spent at the Historic Campbell Castle. We stayed in The Royal Court, the inn’s best room, for two nights. We also got a couples massage at Healing Waters.
Poker Tournament at Harrah’s
Our fourth anniversary was spent at Harrah’s Hotel and Casino in North Kansas City. We entered our first honest-to-goodness casino poker tournament. I didn’t do well, but Brian took second place. So it was still awesome!
Our Jamaican Adventure
Our fifth and most memorable anniversary celebration yet. We celebrated a month early so as not to disrupt my studies. You can check out all of our pictures on Flickr. We also went to the drive-in on our actual anniversary weekend. I’d never been to the drive-in before so it was a real treat.
Incidentally, if you want to know what happened in between anniversaries (the good times and the bad, and more good times) our blog is now available in print. You can order your copy here. Enjoy!

I am always searching for new ways to earn a little extra cash. Nothing that I can retire on or anything like that but you know a place where I can earn a little fun money. Well I finally found one. You all know that I love to write about my experiences and events that happen in my every day life and I know that you all like reading about it. So what makes this site so perfect you ask? well let me tell you! First I don’t have to change anything about the way I write. If I am going to write about credit cards or the fact that I just paid them all off then I can write about that. I simply go to the site and find a relevant advertiser that wants to put what they call a blog ad on my site. this is an unobtrusive link that a guest will see and click on. nothing more nothing less. It will take you to the advertisers site and if you find it interesting then you stay and look around, if not then you come back to my site and read some more. If you are a blogger like I am then this is a great way to earn a little extra cash. they pay you to simply write. Already, I have found several very interesting sites that I never knew existed and have visited them repeatedly. This is something that you must look into if you are interested in improving your web traffic, building your site popularity or just want some extra green. I am and avid movie watcher and plan on using the extra money to build my movie collection. You will also meet some excellent people here, they have a whole community built around this site and new poeple are joining every day. Check it out, I think you will like it.
